In this episode, we highlight a tiny volcanic island in Fiji’s Lau Group of islands, which achieved a milestone after being declared a fully organic island. The 22nd of June 2013 was a day engraved in the hearts of the people of Cicia, when they welcomed and agreed to the wishes of their elders to pledge and make Cicia Island fully organic. Located on Fiji’s south west island, Cicia has become a shining example to the rest of the Pacific because of its effective farming in this episode, we highlight how the Pacific Youth Council (PYC) has evolved and is effectively empowering the Pacific’s young generation to become active citizens and leaders in their local communities, nation and region. Established in 1996, PYC is a regional non-government organisation based in Fiji and acts as an umbrella body for National Youth Councils across the Pacific region, coordinating the needs and voice of youth. This story is told mostly from the perspective of our young people.
